Figure 8 on a Bight

A figure-eight on a bight is a large knot with relatively gradual bends (as compared to an overhand), and is easily recognised by the tell tale “8” shape. It is used to secure a bight in the end of the rope. This knot is commonly used to “tie-in” to the rope.
